ReplyDeleteSee, he's talking about looking on as an alienated outsider at a society that's being lied to by its political and financial elite. So he uses the motif of lying down in the dirt, which then turns to mud when it rains. So the people drowning in the mud are oblivious to the rain, while the writer himself sees the rain and what it portends.
